A kit holds about 2,400 drops of each part — enough to do this job 200 times.

Figures from KVLab (Keavys Corner LLC), who manufacture these kits: three drops of each part give roughly 25–35 ppm once 4 oz of water is added, and the concentrations come from their published application chart. The same arithmetic reproduces their three named mixes exactly. KVLab products are not registered by the EPA. They are offered as components to prepare chlorine dioxide for cleaning and general use, and no claim is made as to efficacy against any disease or pathogen.

Why it comes as two bottles

Chlorine dioxide does not keep. Anything sold to you ready-mixed has been losing strength since the day it was bottled, and by the time it reaches a shelf there is no telling how much is left.

So the kit is two parts and you make what you need. A few drops of each, three minutes to react — it turns amber, which is how you know it is ready — then water to bring it to the strength the job calls for.

A made-up solution lasts about twenty days in a dark cupboard. The two bottles themselves keep for years, which is the trade: a little work each time, in exchange for knowing what is actually in the bottle.

How it goes

  1. A few drops of each

Equal counts from the two bottles into a dry glass. The number depends on the job, and the calculator gives it.

  2. Three minutes to react

It turns amber. That color is how you know it is ready — there is nothing else to watch for.

  3. Add water to strength

Then use it. A made-up solution keeps about twenty days in a dark cupboard, which is why the kit comes as two parts rather than one bottle.

Which one do I need?

A row of sizes cannot answer this, so here it is in words.

Citric acid or hydrochloric

Both make the same amount of chlorine dioxide and take the same number of drops. Citric acid is the food-grade one you can keep in a kitchen cupboard; hydrochloric reacts faster. Neither changes the dose.

Glass droppers or plastic bottles

Glass droppers measure precisely, drop by drop, and are what most people want at home. Plastic squeeze bottles travel better and cost less.

How far a kit goes

About 2,400 drops of each part. An 8 oz spray bottle for hard surfaces takes three of each, so one kit makes around 800 of them — or about 80 at the heavy-cleaning strength.

Common Questions

Why does it have to be mixed each time?
Chlorine dioxide does not keep. That is why the kit comes as two parts: you make what you need, when you need it, and a made-up solution lasts about twenty days in a dark cupboard.
How many drops do I use?
It depends on the job and on how much water you are mixing into. Three drops of each part in 4 oz of water gives roughly 25–35 ppm; the calculator works out the rest.
What is it for?
Cleaning hard surfaces, clearing odor from a car or a room, produce washing, cut flowers. It is not registered as a pesticide and no claim is made against any disease or pathogen.
Why does the mixture turn amber?
That is the reaction happening. Give the two parts three minutes together before adding water — the color is how you know it is ready.
