Common Questions
- Which roll size do I need?
- Two inch is the usual bench roll for tubes and small flasks; four inch covers plates and larger vessels. Both come in 125 and 250 foot lengths.
- Do you sell by the case?
- Yes, and we invoice. Schools, universities and labs can ask for a quote, a W-9 or terms through the wholesale form.
- What is the price?
- Per roll, on each product page, with the stock we actually hold beside it. Case pricing is by quote.
- Can you autoclave Parafilm M?
- No. It melts at 60 °C and an autoclave cycle runs at 121 °C. Seal vessels after sterilising, not before.
- What temperature will it take?
- The manufacturer states a working range of −45 °C to +50 °C. It stays usable in a freezer; warmth is what defeats it, softening from around 54 °C and melting at 60 °C.
- Is it airtight?
- No, and this is the thing that catches people out. It is a barrier against evaporation and volume loss, but oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapour pass through it. Anything depending on the headspace — anaerobic work, a controlled gas — wants a stopper rather than a film.
- What is it made of?
- Polyolefins and paraffin waxes, with no plasticisers. Odourless, colourless, semi-transparent and chemically inert; it resists polar substances for about 48 hours.
- Is it the genuine article?
- Yes — Parafilm M from Amcor, not a lookalike film. The alternatives sold under similar names are different products.
